Ragdoll physics : A technique that uses a physics engine to make a character move naturally, like a limp doll. In FPS games and many other genres, you'll see a dead body collapse like a puppet with its strings cut, falling limp and settling naturally onto the objects around it. This is the ragdoll effect. The name comes from the idea of dying by going limp like a stuffed "rag doll." In real life, too, if you're going to fall anyway, it's safer to go completely limp like a doll than to stiffen your body. "When you fall, it's safer to just go ragdoll than to tense up."
