Understanding another person is always an incomplete process. What we can know when we look at someone is only a part of them: their behavior or attitude at a particular moment, a handful of limited information. Even so, we judge a person by what is visible and come to accept it as the whole. I began this work by focusing on the structure of this perception and the gap that arises within it. I chose to express this mechanism through the form of a window. A window connects one space to another and lets us look outside, but at the same time it shows only a particular scene within a fixed frame. Just as the view changes depending on which window we look through, even within the same space, the way we see others changes with each person's experience and perspective. In this work, I composed ceramic objects with gaps and openings of different sizes and shapes, aiming to visualize the different frames through which each gaze is formed. In the end, what we encounter may not be the whole of a subject, but a single scene selected by our own gaze. Through this work, I hope to look at the gap between what appears and what exists beyond it, and to reflect on what it means to understand another person, and how easily we define someone by only what is shown before us.
