Mind : Compartment

We each have our own way of making sense of the world. Some give names to things, some arrange them in order, while others gather scattered fragments and return them to their place. To create order is not to make everything perfect. Rather, it is an instinctive search—a way of locating oneself within an ever-changing world and making sense of the life one has lived. In 『The Poetics of Space』, Gaston Bachelard describes the drawer as an intimate refuge for memory and thought. We, too, live with memories and emotions that resist clear explanation, keeping them within their own compartments in the mind. We make room even for sensations that cannot easily be named, gathering and tending to our tangled experiences one by one. To create such divisions is not to erase or cast aside what has passed, but to give each experience its own meaning and, in doing so, to embrace it as part of ourselves. <Mind : Compartments> visualizes this inner order through the structure of the drawer, where memories and emotions gradually find their place. The symmetrical, composed outer frame represents the order we construct outwardly as we relate to the world. Within it, overlapping compartments set at varying heights evoke the different depths of time and emotion accumulated within us. The openings formed between these asymmetrically intersecting structures become thresholds through which feelings once tucked away deep within quietly emerge and enter into dialogue with the world outside. Memory does not always settle neatly into place, nor can every emotion be given a precise name. Yet we can still make room for each of them. Through this tender process of bringing disparate memories and emotions into relation, we weave scattered experiences into a narrative and gradually build a world of our own.
