Waiting
2026 Porcelain slip, Ceramic pigment varies by work
As winter set in and the days grew shorter, darkness always settled into the house well before evening. Terrified of the quiet, shadowy space while waiting for my parents to return, my younger self would rush to turn on every single light, driving the darkness away—all while listening intently for the gentle chime at the door that signaled their return. This piece stems from those childhood hours of waiting in the dark, merged with the form of the hydrangea, a motif I naturally associate with my parents. The soft glow shimmering through the petals echoes the light that once cast away the dark of those nights. May this light be a source of strength for someone waiting in place, and a guiding beacon for another finding their way back. Welcome home, to where a warm light awaits your return.
