2026 D1, Matte glaze varies by work

This work is a set of ceramic vessels designed for use on a desk, consisting of storage containers for organizing everyday objects and vessels for enjoying tea and light refreshments. Beyond their practical function of holding and organizing objects within the personal space of a desk, the set is intended to serve as sculptural objects that support moments of focus and contemplation. The surface patterns of the vessels are inspired by the structure of polypetalous flowers and the way their petals overlap. Four distinct forms of petal arrangement—valvate, twisted, imbricate, and vexillary—were reinterpreted from the artist’s perspective and expressed as incised patterns on the surfaces of the vessels. The overlapping lines and planes create depth and rhythm across the surfaces, capturing the natural structure of petals as they fold over one another. The overlapping of petals is a natural means of protecting what lies within from external stimuli. This work connects this structure of overlapping with the function of the vessels, expressing traces of petals carved into and raised from the clay as a form of protection. The vessels hold and embrace the objects placed within them while also creating a small psychological space on the desk, allowing the user to momentarily step away from external distractions and remain in a state of focus and contemplation.
